A 25-program series created to prepare adults to plan careers, enter the workforce, and develop professional skills, WES documents the job market from the viewpoint of workers, employers, and job trainers. Partnering with the Federal Star School’s Program, PBS, KET, and the University of Pennsylvania, WES filmed everyday people grappling with the program topics. The series was shot in cities and small towns from coast to coast, interviewing cooks, inmates, ship captains, and arson investigators, among many others. It’s format includes documentary footage woven throughout scripted scenarios presented by an onscreen host. Workplace Essential Skills is currently airing nationally on PBS and won the CINDY Regional Gold 2000, the National Educational Telecommunications Association Best Instructional Series 2000, and the NETA Best of the Best 2000 awards.
